Current Position on the MPPCOA legal fund

Over the years, individual and Cottage Associations provided generous contributions to the Manitoba Provincial Park Cabin Owners Association (MPPCOA) Legal fund. These funds have been held in trust.

During the 2023, much progress was achieved with the PC Provincial Government of Manitoba and MPPCOA. On April 25, 2023, The Government of Manitoba and MPPCOA entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on a collaborative effort to modernize the lease and service fee model.

The October 2023 election has resulted in a NDP Provincial Government. MPPCOA continues to look forward to working together on issues of shared interest in a spirit of cooperation and partnership for the purposes of establishing a new modernized annual lease fee framework for all Cottagers that are located within Manitoba’s Provincial Park system.

The MPPCOA accounting team (COAT) will continue to hold regular meetings with the provincial representations as we work towards the January 1, 2025 target date for completion of this initiative.

Our work with the Province has not been completed nor do we have assurances that the end product, a new lease fee framework, will achieve both fairness and equity to all Cottagers as compared to all other park users.

At this time, it is MPPCOA preference, to continue to hold in trust the donations previously received, until we are in a position to determine our next steps.
